I don't know about the vampires here. Except for Godric I don't have much to do with them. I imagine many of them wish they could also go back to being the dominant predator... who wouldn't? Humans aren't in any rush to give the land back to the tigers.
I think Nadja is a loose cannon. I think her husband would rush in to back her up even if he wouldn't instigate. But I believe Godric has lived long enough that he's tired of the violence.
I've provoked him here and there, Anita...I had reason to want to know what his temper was like. I can tell when someone is beginning to think about lashing out. Whatever he's really here for, whatever deal it is--I don't know anything about it. But he's disgusted with Nadja's behavior. I can promise you that much.
She leans back, hands holding her mug. She's not explaining this right, she's sure, because Lark is smart enough to get it.
"Say he is hoping for a peaceful situation. That doesn't mean he wants it for the benefit of everyone. Vampires are fine with peace, if it benefits them.
I don't think you aren't skilled at reading people. You're a wolf and a lawyer. But old ones have had a long time to learn how to play the long game."
[ The smell of very good, strong coffee will be waiting for Lark when he arrives, and of course, Sekhmet will dash out from wherever she likes to hide to greet him.
Archer himself is waiting in the kitchen with said coffee. He smiles, too, when Lark comes in. ]
Good morning. I see you brought breakfast.
[ Not that he technically needs to eat, but who can say no to fresh muffins?? ]
Lark-san, at your earliest convenience. If you feel it would be appropriate. I would like to ask for your advice and perhaps your guidance on a professional matter.
[It isn't late. Lark's just come in from dinner shift, had a chance to shower and stretch out while he waits for Alec to come home. But ever the workaholic he answers his phone anyway, and is glad to do so.]
Sure. What's going on? [Wait-] Would you rather speak in person or is this fine?
It's the night of Franky's gathering, and the first time since they've been on board that Alec comes home second. Lark is by far the one with more responsibilities just now, and Alec has been content to keep it that way, knowing it won't always be. His calendar is already getting fuller.
He drank a little at the gathering, because that's the way those things go, he knows; he ate much more, and talked, and smiled prettily, and did not go out of his way to make any enemies. He did not feel exactly welcome, this fresh faced boy who lies, but that's always the way it is. He wouldn't have gone if they were back home. He wouldn't find himself thinking again about things he hasn't actively thought about in years if they were back home.
"Hey," he calls as he slips in the door, sees lights on in their cabin and knows in a way he can't exactly explain that it's Lark and that everything is calm without having to lay eyes on him. He wonders, silently, if he'll ever get used to the way simply closing the door behind him like this makes something in him loosen enough to breathe easier.
Lark is relaxing on their bed, pillows gathered behind him and their expensive red duvet still tightly made under him. He's reading, making notes, things he always does at home. It's just the subjects that are different here.
"Hey," he calls back, and sets his work aside to greet Alec. "How'd it go?"
Fuck that breach. But there is something I want to discuss with you. This isn’t a “drop everything and get your ass here” sort of request, though. Do take your time.
[ For all that Kiryu had offered to be the one to break the news to Lark, he still feels somewhat embarrassed to be bothering the man he's considered to be his mentor in this place once again. That it's on this particular topic makes it awkward in an entirely different sense. However, this was something he had to do. ]
Lark-san,
Pagan and I have discussed the matter and have decided that we would like to pursue a relationship with one another. We also decided that I would be the one to make you aware of it, though we don't intend to declare the matter publicly as we are both private people.
[ He trusts Lark to understand that yes, Pagan too. ]
I hope you have faith in me enough to know that I have considered the moral and logistical concerns of such a relationship, but you are one of the few on board who, I believe, could raise valid concerns. My greatest concern is Pagan; I would never do anything with the intention of hurting him, but I'm far from perfect.
[ A soft pause. ]
I love him very much. But I know that isn't always enough.
If you have concerns, I will check back here, or stop by my cabin. Thank you.
"- I feel like I should have gone with the blue shirt," Pagan tells Kiryu as he opens the door to 101, Lark's cabin. "Rather than the red. But, well, too late now. Lark!" he calls out, feeling just as ease here as in his own.
"We're here for your fucking dinner party. And I hope you did not expect me to make tea or bring anything because this is extremely late notice and I am a terrible guest."
Never mind that Pagan had been the one to choose the timing.
"You're a terrible guest," Lark agrees, and eyes Pagan. "And you should have gone with blue."
He looks at Kiryu, appraising him next before giving him a nod. "I hope pork is fine for everyone, because it's what I borrowed from the pantry in the kitchen."
[She said she's unarmed which is appalling if it's her warden's doing. But it probably isn't, at least not in this context, because everyone seems to be shit out of luck. So he's just the normal amount of Concerned. Worry about the rest later.]
[God it's good to hear Warren's voice, and to hear someone who gets it.]
I'm all right. Keeping the kitchen moving and the infirmary stocked, but the moment people are on their feet again you and I are going to spend a few days as wolves.
[She hates stairs, they make her bad knee hurt. But also fuck elevators. She does her level best to not be winded when she knocks on his door. She only mostly succeeds.]
It's usually easy for Lark to tell when he's been in a coma. Wake up on the floor? Probably the Admiral's doing. But this time he'd actually meant to go to sleep, so he wakes up and assumes it's simply the next morning.
He notes that he's a little bit less spry than he should be, but chalks that up to Alec's shenanigans that day. He pads out to follow the scent, and realizes he is ravenous.
"What is that?" Immediately sidling up beside Pagan, every bit as eager and obnoxious as a pet dog.
He's glad for the distraction. He was just sitting in his bed beside Alec, who hasn't moved or stirred in more than a month.
By the time he gets to the door he's wiped all that fear and loneliness off his face and he smiles. "If those aren't for me I'm going to fight you for them."
[He's awake, sitting beside Alec who is still dead to the world--not dead, don't even think it. He's glad at first to see who's called, and then worried, laser focused on Pagan.]
Anything you want to revise as far as rationing goes? I have a place where folk can't steal stuff, should it become an issue. Just let me know. Otherwise, I'm keeping to business as usual.
I’ve got food and supplies for all wolves stocked and secured. And will not be donating.
No one needs hungry wolves locked in with them.
And yes, that includes the blonde menace. I’m sure given her pack make up and her own sense, they haven’t stored up anything for emergencies. Feel free to tell the pale hypocrite whenever you feel is appropriate.
I'll let him know now. [Ugh. You know what he hates? Looking out for a rival pack instead of devouring them.] Thanks, Warren. As much as I wouldn't mind letting her starve, well. I'm a warden and no one dies here.
N-not to take up any of your bandwidth, I realize the kitchen people have quite a lot to handle right now, but, um, I did want to-
That is, I recall our talk. A few of our talks. And that means I, well, I suppose I ought to let you know about it sooner rather than later, in case something gets out of hand.
The preacher, John Seed, the one everyone was up in arms about a few weeks ago. He, uh, he might be a touch obsessed with me at the moment? Which... is at least a little my fault. Sort of. A bit of Knowing happened and I confronted him about it since it was, of course, on topic for what we were talking about and he, er-
He got a bit weird at the end and then talked about wanting to torture me endlessly, given my healing abilities so, uh...
Just... just giving you the heads up. Nothing further. Just- just keeping you informed.
