It doesn't have to be! But good, we're good-- I mean, there are some hiccups, but that's to be expected!

[God, she suddenly thinks. Can I get Pagan to let me work in the infirmary by going over his head to his former warden? Does it work like that? Do former wardens still have rank and influence?

This is a possibility she'll have to explore.]

So, wanna meet up? Hang out?

All right. Why don't we meet at the enclosure? You can pick the setting.

Huh-- okay.

It can make anything?

[ukan]

Anything you can imagine.

[citizendetective]

Sure, I'll come up with something. See you in a few!

[Nothing immediately jumps to mind, is the thing. Oh, sure, she could come up with plenty of options: imagination is limitless, after all. But the point of the Enclosure, she assumes, is to revisit places you miss from home, and she's not really attached to very many places - at least, not any places that are conducive to a get-together this. What is she going to do, walk him through her house?]

Could we do multiple places?

[She asks when she arrives, running a hand down the warden-locked door.]

Like, starting with a walk in the woods, and then checking out the Egyptian pyramids, and then a beach in Hawaii? Would that work?

It can. We'll start in Montana...

[He plugs it all in]

Ready.

[She says, and when the scene forms itself around them, she steps out into it immediately, running a hand over the bark of a tree.]

You know, I've never been to Montana. I've been to the Canadian Rockies. And I'm not a big outdoorsy person, but there's something about the woods...

[Turning back to look at Lark, she smiles.]

So! What was Pagan like as an inmate?

[ukan]

He was fun. We have the same sense of humor; he showboats, I like watching people showboat.

[citizendetective]

A dark sense of humor...?

[She asks, remembering how Pagan had laughed when she'd made a little pun about her own death.]

Do you showboat?

[ukan]

I try not to. If you're good at what you do, you don't need to.

What are you good at?

[citizendetective]

Oh, well, I have great first aid skills, I have a keen eye for detail, I'm calm in a crisis... but, um, you realize you just kind of implied that Pagan isn't good at what he does, right? Or did you mean he showboats, but he doesn't have to?

[ukan]

He doesn't have to. He showboats because it's fun. You should ask him sometime about how he runs his life now. Maybe he'll even tell you how he used to lead.

[citizendetective]

He's told me some... I mean, we were temporarily paired last month, too. He really has amazing stories.

[ukan]

If you want to make the most of your pairing, find something you can do together. I wish I'd done more of that with him.

[citizendetective]

Is there any reason you can't now?

[She asks, turning to slowly walk into the trees - turning to look over her shoulder as she does so, trying to make it clear that she's trying to walk with him, not away from him.]

[ukan]

The dynamic is different. He doesn't need my help to work through the things that made him an inmate anymore.

[citizendetective]

Well, do you guys still talk?

[ukan]

Oh, we're still friends. But you're his top priority now. And Trevor is mine. We just hang out outside of work now.

[citizendetective]

So you, like... drifted. Huh. Does it always happen like that?

[ukan]

All of us live on different worlds. Without interdimensional travel, I think we'll all lose touch eventually.

[citizendetective]

And you don't think that's depressing.

[ukan]

It's life. It doesn't change how much I care about him. If I had the option to visit him, I would, as much as I could.

[citizendetective]

I mean, I get the concept of caring about people even when you're not in contact anymore... obviously. But if I thought it was permanent, or we were totally cut off... I know I'd be really depressed.

[ukan]

It just means you have to enjoy what you have while you have it, right?

[citizendetective]

Or you could try to find a different way to hold on; have you thought about that? I mean, some people here go home with other people.
