I think we should still increase the amount of time we're together. That way no one can claim you weren't trying, or I was negligent.

I’m for that. I can pull a double shift with you and Trixie for breakfast and lunch and the rest of the time I’m usually in the company of Sypha, Adrian, or one of the kids.

You want to watch practice fighting with me, Hunter, and Kyoko? That way they have a warden supervisor and you don’t get shit on if one of us goes too far with our fists.

And when you’re “asleep” I’ll start visiting the church.

Yes. [He nods. It's rare he doesn't have tweaks or additions to someone else's plans but this one he likes. It's flexible enough to grow when needed, but clear enough to follow.]

When do you practice with- wait, who's Kyoko?

All right. Priorities now are to stop you from getting demoted, find out what we can from him and others, maybe track his movements, and start getting him comfortable with the idea that I don’t remember anything after I drink.

Kyoko, the red-haired girl who has magic who isn’t Sypha. I kind of adopted her.

[He loves a good, slow-burning plan. He woke up feeling like shit and he feels a tiny bit less shitty now.]

She's feisty. She told me I have weak lawyer fists because I've never been in a real fight.

[Trevor barks a laugh: the first he’s had in ages]

I’ll let her know you’re what you are. She’s young and wild but she’s smart as shit.

Anyway. I’m trying to set aside time to practice with her at least once a week.

What are you teaching her?

Last week I taught her how to throw a beanbag with pinpoint accuracy over a long distance.

This week I’m thinking letting her show me some of her magic and how she uses it in battle.

[He chuckles. A handy skill, beanbag tossing.]

She doesn't underestimate you for being human?

She's a spitfire who wants to be an amazing fighter. And I think she might be human herself.

One with magic?

Yeah. She was the kid I asked you about her second week here, the one the Necromancer wouldn’t help.

How have her wardens treated her since then?

She's had all of two. Sypha was the first: I told her to give her her powers back and she listened. The newest is B, who runs the vet clinic here. He's a good man, kind of an idiot. I think he's barely going to make an impression on her.

I wouldn't underestimate him. B is subtle. Loyal and willing to do whatever it takes for people he cares about, but he's a soft touch with his inmates. He's clever but we all have strategies that only work with certain people--and I'm not just talking about wardens.

He’s a vet who doesn’t know how to spay my dog.

A veteran. Who fought in a war. Not a veterinarian.

Well, why the fuck is he working in the kennels then?

Because he likes dogs!

Trevor, if you really want to cut your dog's balls off, have Alec do it. But why would you?

My dog doesn’t have balls!

But Zack’s does. And she’s getting friendly with him.

I'm pretty sure pregnancies can't happen here. That or everyone has been extremely lucky. Anyway if it needs to happen, Alec is still a good bet.
