I had to hide out in a dog shelter. Most dog shelters automatically spay and neuter the animals coming in; this one didn't. I chose it because it didn't.
Then I got adopted by a lady who took me to a vet for my shots and exam. They discussed it, ah, at length. I was this close to losing them.
It was. But the first thing I did after graduation was kill him and build a new pack. A healthier one--we're more of a family than I ever was with the old one.
Well, you figure that time works different in the afterlife already. If they bring me back, something bad would had to have happened that they couldn't handle themselves. And that could be years. Decades.
I come back and I think my brain would break. Everything would be different: people change and grow to match their surroundings. I would get there and I would see people I recognize, but Sypha would be older. My kid would be a stranger. And they'd have different life experiences. People aren't meant to die and come back, anyway.
I did die here. Have died, more than once. But the first time... [has stuck with him.]
I was sent home from here once, when I was an inmate. I went home, I forgot all about this place. I lived life, I made mistakes, I nearly died again; the Admiral brought me back. Years had passed here. And when my memories of this place returned, I was a stranger. Everything I knew, the one person I'd grown to love, was gone. I had to start all the way over.
I'm afraid to die but when it happens, I don't know that I'd want another second chance.
...What am I saying, I'd make do with it if it was given. But I don't know if I'd ask for it.
