Alec has been working on the cabin between bouts of supervising Gonou, and the occasional infirmary shift; if he's home, he stops only to watch over Lark's sleep, then goes right back to it.
He's painting today, all the furniture in the living room pulled to the center and covered with a tarp, wishing he could open a window to let out the smell. He's settled for taking a break in the kitchen, scrolling through the network.
It couldn't be dark around him if he tried: the field of his aura extends a little further than most he's seen, ends much more abruptly, and is filled with every color he's ever had a name for at one point or another - although the prevalent colors seem to be deep claret and navy blue, pierced through with an intense but understated opalescent shimmer when he looks up and sees Lark.
His own aura is a deep gold, shot through with indigo and arterial red. It doesn't change when he sees Alec, it just becomes a dozen shades more vibrant when he hears Alec's voice.
He remembers this, he realizes as he watches it happen. He remembers feeling that intense burst of emotion when he borrowed being a wolf from Lark, although it's easy to forget that it's tied to him.
It makes him smile, makes the shimmering quality to everything else last longer, but it also bleeds more of the red into blue.
"I can see when you lie now, you know. Although I never needed all of this to do that."
"You married me for my honesty," he retorts, crossing the room to him but taking his time.
It's not rare at all for Lark to just stop sometimes and watch Alec do whatever it is he's doing at the time, always with the same soft smile. It's that same expression on his face now, but with a spark of wonder as he watches the shimmering and the way the colors touch one another.
"I married you for your money, keep it straight," he retorts, setting down the orange he was peeling, and feeling uncharacteristically self conscious when he realizes Lark isn't quite looking at him. That's fair. Alec isn't either.
It translates to a swift chartreuse shade that fades the moment Alec becomes aware of it, clearing his throat.
He reaches out, catches himself bracing when their two auras overlap, but he doesn't feel anything out of the ordinary and so glances up quickly to Lark's face.
"I can't control any of it," he admits. "Well. I can concentrate on one emotion over another, but that doesn't last past having to focus on something in front of me."
"I can't change the blue and gold. But the rest," he nods slightly; he can focus on one or two at a time. "But I wouldn't bet on being able to do it while distracted."
There is only one place Alec's mind goes to first when he thinks of distracting Lark in particular. He points at the deep umber shade bleeding in around the edges.
They haven't had sex in a year, but that doesn't mean his libido has been impacted at all. It's a part of being what he is.
Instead of umber, though, it's a deep forest green for him, flickering at the edges of his aura as he looks Alec slowly down and slowly up again. "Well, I like it."
There's the - not embarrassment, not exactly. He's never been ashamed of the way he's attracted to Lark, the way he enjoys sex, not by a long shot. But there's some discomfort involved again, though he offers his hand anyway.
"We should practice more." Then, realizing how that sounds, he adds quickly, "Control, I mean."
"You realize I'm thinking about anywhere from four to five things at any given time, right?" That's part of why he's turned into a fucking kaleidoscope.
"I didn't expect you to laugh," he says after a moment. He's incredibly self aware compared to most, but words for it are still sometimes harder than they should be.
And Alec is still typically dual natured: "I liked it."

You know what--cancel work, come home, teach me.

You could take your time though.

[he's already halfway there, eager to see what Alec's colors are, so when he gets home he opens the door, slips inside, locks it.]
