What, to deter him? [A bark of a laugh] Trevor was born, bred, and raised to fight things that will never relent, so he has to be more relentless. If you're thinking I should try to break him down or strong-will him into submission, no. Even if I could, I wouldn't.
No, Lark. I’m telling you there need to be boundaries besides “if you kill someone, I’m going to babysit you”.
Because clearly that doesn’t do anything. No one can watch someone else 24/7, and in the meantime, other Inmates get stuck paying the price.
I get the fact that we all advocate for our own Inmates, but considering you claim to be an advocate for all Inmates, you’re not exactly doing a good job living up to what you keep advertising.
It’s about you and Trevor. It’s about the fact that everyone can get mad at people like Sephiroth and Envy when they do bad shit because they’re assholes who hate humans.
But when someone like Trevor who is halfway likable kills someone, because his “reasons” are less terrible than theirs, he gets responses like “oh I saw your girlfriend arrived, and I can’t wait to meet her”.
Either death on this boat matters or it doesn’t. Either we hold people to the same damn standard or we don’t.
And if you don’t care about that standard, you need to stop pitching yourself as an advocate for everyone. Because clearly, your favorites are more important to you.
Reasons matter, Zack. Motives matter a whole hell of a lot. If his motives were just "I hate people" or "I'm bored" or "I get off on making people bleed", I'd be treating this very differently. I don't subscribe to absolutes and I urge you not to, either.
My job is to help him figure out a way to survive as a better man when he leaves here. It's not to make him into someone who fits into black and white terms.
So basically what you’re saying is, you don’t give a shit if Trevor kills because as long as you agree with his reasons, you don’t care about the other people who die.
You don’t believe life should be protected on this boat, and you don’t care about protecting anyone else; you only care about him.
No, Lark. I’m pissed because for someone who likes to talk about how useless Zero is, what you’re doing in response to Trevor killing people isnt any damn different from sticking him down there for a week.
I already said there need to be boundaries. Clear expectations regarding what’s acceptable and what isn’t, and what the consequences will be if he crosses a line. No surprises.
I liked the system Zagreus proposed for Elias - you could tweak it as needed.
It’s fine to understand his reasons. I can understand why Sephiroth went batshit all day long. That doesn’t mean I’m just going to make him take a nap in my room for a week after he kills somebody.
Killing should never be the first or only response to other murders. It doesn’t solve anything, and that’s all Trevor does - and almost exclusively with nonhumans. So give him a list of things he can do that aren’t murder.

[He wants to argue that he is doing more than just babysitting, but he certainly hasn't communicated it. That last month before the crash he'd been knocked right out of his usual orbit, and it turns out the year in a foreign planet hasn't helped. He feels right back where he was, and no wiser for it.
So. Go back to what does work. Go back to the things he told other people to do, and do them, too.]
This is why I encourage wardens to be vocal about what they're doing in response to situations, and I realize I haven't done that. I'm still figuring out how to get through to him. I'm still trying to find the most long-term, effective strategy.
But I can keep you all better informed of it in the future.
[ The ire has gone out of his voice, and now he's just...well, concerned, honestly. ]
I know we're not that close so you don't need to tell me what's wrong. But if there's something I can do to help - and I mean, to help you, specifically - I want to.
I'm still trying to figure out what's wrong with me. But...honestly, you keeping an eye out for trouble eases my mind. I know you won't just let something happen.

Glad we could clear this up.
Re: private;
I was asking what you would do because honestly, I'm open to ideas. I am. As long as it can benefit everyone involved.
