Protecting people is a key part of your identity. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you were raised to see yourself as a shield against the darkness. When you see an injustice, you were born and trained and raised to want to correct it. Being asked not to do that is asking you to give up a piece of yourself. But the whole time I've known you, you have always put others' safety ahead of your own. If you jump into a situation, it's because you're used to being the only one who can do anything about it. It's not about your ego. If I thought you fought your fights because you wanted someone to pat you on the ass for it, you and I would have a very different relationship.
